During the month of January, we spent a lot of time talking about all things Winter! This interest sparked after getting some snow and the children getting involved in Winter activities like skating lessons. We have a class all about hockey which led us to changing our dramatic play centre to a canteen where the children could purchase slushies, cotton candy, popcorn and more! This has helped with communication skills and introducing concepts of money. They shared their experiences going to Spitfire games, watching hockey on the television at home, and watching their dads play at the arena. The canteen seems to be their favourite place to go to get a yummy treat. We expanded the interest of Winter into learning the four different seasons and the weather we have in each one. We took a vote on which one is our favourite. Winter was the winner!
We celebrated a couple birthdays last month and we have a handful more coming up in February. All the preschoolers ask how many more days until their birthday. We also have a few fun themed days to elaborate that we found on calendarr.ca once again. Last month, we had a blast having popcorn with our movie on National Popcorn Day, wearing our shirts backwards on National Backwards Day and creating a large classroom puzzle on National Puzzle Day. Take a look at our classroom February calendar to see what days we are celebrating next!
During the first week of February, we will be taking a vote on who thinks the Groundhog will see his shadow. What do you think? Afterwards, we look forward to discussing Valentines Day and creating some valentines for our friends and family.
We look forward to welcoming a few more new friends into our classroom and making them feel welcome. Reminder that we will be closed for Family Day on February 19th.
FYI: February 21st is Kindergarten Open House from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm for all schools.
