January was a busy month, full of fun winter activities! We spent most of the month celebrating the winter season. At circle time the children participated in winter large group games that included; ice fishing, skating, and snowman bowling. We also learnt about hibernation and talked about animals that adapt to the cold vs those that hibernate or migrate. The children shared their favourite winter activities during circle time and practiced their fine motor skills by cutting, gluing, and sorting winter activities.
We have really been focusing on name recognition, tracing, and graphing. We have incorporated a question of the day to our large group activities where the children are able to vote and then work together to count the votes. This has been an exciting way to promote early math skills! When we vote we exercise key concepts like sorting, counting, charting, and comparing.
Towards the end of the month, we introduced “Jolly Phonics” to the children, the first segment of letters are (S, A, T, I, P, N). This activity has become an exciting part of the children’s daily routine. They have been working hard to remember each letter name, sound, and action!
Just a reminder we will be closed Monday, February 21st for Family Day. We hope you have a wonderful day with your family! Also, please remember to wear red and pink on Monday, February 14th to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
