Preschool Room #1 News

March is here and we are excited to see if our groundhog friend was right and we get 6 more weeks of winter. We have been having such a wonderful time playing in the snow outside. The children have been enjoying the sleds, shovels, and pails during their snow play.

During the last month, the children were interested in where the animals go in the winter time. They were excited to learn about what animals migrate and what animals hibernate.  This interest led us in learning about different habitats around the world.

Recently the children have been showing an interest in the letters in their names. Some children are even practicing writing “their letter” on their artwork. We will be expanding on this interest for the next couple weeks.

Preschool Room #2 News

This past month in our classroom we expanded upon the children’s interests of familiar stories and nursery rhymes. Each day the group read a new fairy tale and created a craft based on each story. At large group the children practiced story sequencing and used masks to retell the story of “The 3 Little Pigs.” The children loved retelling the stories at our storytelling table. Our dramatic play centre was transformed into Goldilocks and The Three Bears. This centre provided an invitation for the children to play imaginatively while also incorporating key mathematical concepts and opportunities to use descriptive language such as too hot, too cold, too hard, and too soft.

We had so much fun the week of Valentine’s Day making beautiful artwork and creating Valentine’s. We celebrated Valentine’s Day by turning our dramatic play centre into a flower shop and creating Valentine’s for our loved ones in our post office writing centre. We designed a special mail box where the children sent their Valentine’s until the special day arrived!

We hope everyone enjoyed Family Day with their families. In light of Family Day, we ended the month learning about families. The group discussed who was in their family by making graphs and shared what activities they enjoyed doing with their families. The children also created family portraits and family trees.

As March approaches we are eagerly waiting for spring to arrive! We are so excited for the warmer weather to explore all the learning opportunities that come with the change of season!

Reminder: March Break is the week of March 14th-18th, please let us know if there are any changes to your child’s schedule for this week.

Also St. Patrick’s Day is on Thursday, March 17th so remember to wear green to celebrate!
