Preschool Room #1
Happy Spring! We are glad to have had some warmer days in March. We are hoping that spring brings us warmer weather, as it will be nice to not have to wear snow pants anymore. There are still some colder days that we will need our winter gear so please continue to send them. The teachers will use their discretion as to whether we need them or not.
The children have been really interested in familiar stories such as The 3 Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, The 3 Billy Goats Gruff, and Little Red Riding Hood among others. Their favourite character is the Wolf. These stories have helped them with many concepts including numbers, manners, work hard then play, determination, serration, and sizes.
Many of the children were talking about their pets, so we want to thank you for sending your pictures. We turned our interest centre into a pet centre. We included pets, blankets, some carriers, veterinary tools, and pictures.
We participated in Hats on for Health Care last month, and for a donation the children were able to wear a hat for the day. We were able to raise $200.00 to support Windsor Regional Hospital’s Cardiac Program. Some of the children loved it so much they tried to wear their hats the next day.
We also participated in World Down Syndrome day and rocked our crazy socks on March 21st. This is an annual event that represents the extra chromosomes these individuals have.
April will bring a lot of talk about the Easter Bunny and Spring and all the changes that the season brings. Just a reminder that we will be closed Friday, April 18th for Good Friday and Monday, April 21st for Easter Monday. Enjoy your long weekend.
Preschool Room #2
April showers bring May flowers. We are all looking forward to observing all signs of Spring that will hopefully be arriving soon.
In Preschool 2, our dramatic play centre has changed from a Veterinary Clinic to a construction site. The children have been enjoying dressing up, using tools, trucks and blocks. They have all been demonstrating team working skills while building structures, fixing tractors, or making something on the tool bench together.
We also had many special days recently. We had fun celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, as we wore green and went on a leprechaun hunt. We also rocked our socks for “World Down Syndrome Day”. Thank you to everyone who participated.
During the month of April, we are going to wrap up our Science Interest. The children have been enjoying making a guess as to what will happen (hypothesis) and discovering if they were correct when they did the experiment. We did large group experiments as well as individual experiments. We explored magnets, magnifying glasses, microscopes, wind, clouds, and dinosaurs just to name a few.
We will also be wrapping up our “Letter of the Day”. We have been having lots of fun focusing on the different letters of the alphabet, the sound they make, and learning what begins with that letter.
