Preschool Room #1

This summer is really flying by with all the fun that was had. This past month the children were all very excited to talk about the Essex Fun Fest. They talked about driving by and seeing the rides, some kids shared what sort of prizes they won from the games and which performers they saw such as princess Elsa. Other children happily shared their experiences going on vacations with their families.

Talks of vacation have sparked interest in airplanes for the class. Outside the kids look to the sky to see planes flying over head and often mention who’s been on a plane or who is going on a plane next. We plan to further expand on their interest in transportation for the upcoming month with circle time and small group activities involving planes, trains and cars.

If your family is planning more vacations or time off for the month of August, please be sure to let staff know so we can plan accordingly.  Also note that Story Book will be closed on Monday August 5th for the Civic Holiday and Monday September 2nd for Labour Day.

We hope everyone continues to have a great summer and enjoy this warm weather while its still here.

Preschool Room #2

Summer is in full swing, and we are having a wonderful time. The weather has been cooperating and we have been able to continue our summer activities outside. The children have been enjoying the sandbox, sidewalk chalk, bubbles as well as water play to name a few. Stay tuned for more exciting days, we are planning on having a “water day”, “movie day” and a “carnival day” this month.

The children have been loving our camp site in our dramatic play. Many of them have been incorporating their own camping experiences with their families into their play. Based on these observations, we are going to be adding a pond, trees as well as some bugs to the centre.

In the next couple of weeks, we will be talking about rhyming words based on the children requesting songs such as “Down by the Bay” as well as making up their own games with word play. We will be reading books like Dr. Seuss to help the children become more familiar with words that sound the same.

For some of our older children, this will be their last month before moving on to “Big School.” We will miss them all and wish them the best of luck in Kindergarten!
“You’re off to great places, today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.” – Dr. Seuss.

Just a reminder, we will be closed August 5th for the Civic Holiday and September 2nd for Labour Day.

The Greater Essex Public District School Board will start all Kindergarten classes on Tuesday, September 3rd.  If your child is attending any other school board, please verify your child’s start day with their school and please let the staff know of their commencement date.
