Preschool Room #1
Spring time is here and the children in Preschool 1 have taken a keen interest in the critters that come along with it. While outside the children have been finding ladybugs and following them around the playground, observing the dots on their backs, and how they fly. On rainy days the children have pointed out the worms they can see on the cement and the robins chasing after them. We have noticed one robin in particular has made a nest in our play yard and we’re excited to keep a close eye for eggs and future baby birds.
This month we celebrate the women in our lives who mean the most to us. Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, and aunts on May 12th. Another important date to remember this month is Victoria Day on May 20th; please note Story Book we will be closed on this day.
As the weather continues to warm up, we will begin applying sunscreen. Sunscreen will be provided by Story Book Early Learning Centre. The brand name is Croc Bloc. It is BPA free and hypo-allergenic with an SPF of 30. Sunscreen will be applied to all exposed skin including the face, tops of ears, arms, legs and bare shoulders. It will be effective from 10am to 4pm. If you do not want us to apply our sunscreen to your child, please notify staff and apply your sunscreen at home before your child arrives at school.
Preschool Room #2
Spring is in full bloom and the children are excited everyday to go outside and explore the changes this season has to bring. They have been busy picking dandelions, finding bugs, and checking on our family of robins that built their nest on our pergola. We were lucky enough to watch the nest grow as the robins built it and now, we see the mommy sitting on her eggs everyday. We took this teachable moment to learn about how nests are made, as well as why the mommy sits on her eggs and what is happening inside those eggs before hatching.
Inside we have been doing a lot of role playing and reenacting familiar stories in the puppet/dramatic center. The children have been preforming stories such as, “3 Billy Goats Gruff”, “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears” and “The Gingerbread Man”.
We also worked together in making the 3 houses for “The 3 Little Pigs”. The children loved acting out the story for their friends using the houses and costumes.
We wish all the moms and grandmas a very Happy Mother’s Day!
Just a reminder that we are closed Monday, May 20th for Victoria Day. We hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday.
