Preschool Room #1 News
As we begin the month of March we will see if our groundhog friend has correctly predicted an early spring. Although we have enjoyed sledding around our play yard, making snow angels and forming snowballs, warmer weather is eagerly awaited.
The children enjoyed learning about Valentine’s Day this past February and especially enjoyed spreading love to their friends by handing out valentines at circle time. Lately the children have shown interest in construction vehicles, dinosaurs, and sorting colours. To foster those interests, we have put out activities such as coloured dinosaurs for the children to sort and construction vehicles with dried corn for them to drive over or scoop up.
Reminder March break is coming up (March 11th – March 15th ), please let us know if there are any changes to your children’s schedule for that week if you haven’t already.
Easter is also celebrated in March this year so Story Book will be closed for Good Friday on March 29th and Easter Monday on April 1st.
Preschool Room #2 News
March is here and it’s time to see if the groundhog’s predictions will be correct and warmer weather will be making an appearance.
We had lots of fun in February with all the special days on our calendar.
During Groundhogs Day we learned more about hibernation and made our own predictions about the upcoming weather. We found that there are a few meteorologists in our class who love to look at the weather app everyday and figure out what it will be like outside. This inspired us to bring back our weather chart. The children are able to look outside and put up the picture that matches the weather they see. Sometimes the picture is changed multiple times due to the children noticing the changes in the weather throughout the day. We are going to be adding to the weather chart with the challenge of putting up what outdoor clothing is appropriate that day.
We also discussed how to spread the love and kindness during Valentine’s Day, Family Day, and random act of Kindness Day. The children enjoyed showing their friends that they care by handing out their Valentines, as well as other large group activities. We talked about how to comfort a sad friend and all the loving words we can say and actions we can do to put a smile on someone’s face.
Recently the children have been showing interest in transportation by using different materials to construct boats and trains during free play. We are planning on expanding on this interest during small and large groups in the upcoming weeks.
We will also be learning about name and letter recognition based on observations of the children writing and making letters that are in their names, as well as other familiar names.
March break is from March 11th to March 15th, if this creates a change in your child’s schedule, please let staff know if you haven’t already done so.
Also, a reminder that Story Book will be closed Friday March 29th for Good Friday as well as Monday April 1st for Easter Monday. We hope you have a safe and happy Easter.
