It’s been a very busy few weeks, here in the Kindergarten room, as we get to know (and learn more) about each other. We’ve got lots of new faces, and new friends joining our room each and every week. Our “experienced” kindergarten students (the SK’s) have been a HUGE help at showing our new friends the ropes!
Towards the end of the month, we celebrated the Indigenous culture and some of their traditions. We made our own talking sticks, did a friendship dance to Mi’kmaw music, and tried to build Inukshuks with our building materials. Our crew, also, wore the colour orange to remind everyone that “All Children Matter”.
As we head into October, our focus will be on “all things FALL”. Autumn is such an AMAZING season with all kinds of things to look forward to.
Several of our students have already gone to the apple orchard, which will help us to kick off our learning about the Fall harvest and apple picking. We’ve got lots of great books, games, and role-playing ideas to enhance our understanding, as well!
As we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, our Kindergarten crew will take to the art centre where they may be transformed into turkeys! And we wouldn’t be surprised if a silly little feathered friend makes an appearance in our “mystery bag” sometime soon.
With Fall, comes a lot of talk about visiting pumpkin patches, corn mazes, pumpkin carving, and baking tasty treats. We’ll be learning about the life cycle of a tree and decorating our bulletin boards with falling leaves and pumpkins of our own.
And before long, it’ll be time to transform those pumpkins into . . . jack o’ lanterns! Halloween will be here before we know it, and our Kindergarten crew will be busy deciding on costumes and counting down to “Trick-or-Treat” night! Each day, we will try to guess what Chirp (from our favourite magazine) will be wearing for Halloween. We’ll be making monster stew, catching spiders in our web, reading creepy stories, and playing glow-in-the-dark games.
There are always FUN & EXCITING things happening in the JK/SK room!
Reminder: We will be closed Monday October 11th, for Thanksgiving. Have a great holiday.
