KINDERGARTEN NEWS
As you know, December was a very busy month as we prepared for the Christmas holidays. We played games, learned rhymes, sang songs, read LOTS of stories, and made several holiday crafts. Our favourite activity was arriving each morning to find out what Sparkle (the elf) had done in our classroom while we were away at night. He was a bit mischievous, and often got into the cupboards, sharing the playdoh with our dinosaurs, making ladders with our straws and connectors, and creating his very own special art pieces! We didn’t want to say goodbye, but we were each able to hold Sparkle (thanks to Santa’s special holiday jar), before he headed back to the North Pole. To our surprise he left behind a special gift for us to use in our classroom, a new set of colourful plastic gears.
We are looking forward to all the things “Winter” brings, in the upcoming month. Although we don’t want a ton of snow, a little would help us along with our planned activities! We will be making snowmen and snowflakes in the craft centre, reading winter books and role-playing during our large group time. Did you know that you can “skate” on paper plates??? No need for ice! And, as promised, we’ll have plenty of time to play with our indoor snowballs.
We’ll be talking more about hibernation and learning a bit about the animals that DO brave the cold winter months outside. We’ll be making special bird feeders to help out our little feathered friends. Please be sure that your child arrives prepared for outdoor play, as we’re looking forward to rolling around in that fluffy white stuff (if it ever arrives)!
Also, a quick reminder about the P.A. Day on Friday, January 18th. Please let us know, as soon as possible, if your child(ren) will be attending that day.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! Here, in the Kindergarten room, we can’t wait to experience all the fun things that 2019 has to offer!
