Preschool Room #3

Our first month together has been a blast! This month we have been focusing on kindness, friendship and creating a classroom family. The preschoolers even completed a group project of making a classroom family tree. They also decorated buckets to go with our bucket filling story, friendship bracelets, puzzle pieces symbolizing “all fitting together” and more. We have had many discussions about feelings and different ways we can express our emotions and several calming strategies we can use. We have a special cozy spot in our classroom dedicated to relaxing our bodies and minds. This is where posters of these strategies are posted such as yoga poses and breathing techniques, a basket of stuffed animals to hug, and a treasure box of emotion stones, noise cancelling headphones, and other calming tools.

Throughout the year we will be focusing on different kindergarten readiness skills. The focus this month has been name recognition and identifying the first letter of our names and the sound it makes. The next step is identifying the rest of the letters in our names and starting the process of writing them on our own. This is a skill that will be used daily in kindergarten.

During outside time the preschoolers have been noticing the changes of the season and are excited for all the fall activities. During the month of October, we will continue our interest into learning about the leaves changing colours, Thanksgiving, Halloween and more. We have a fun month ahead of us.

We would like to invite everyone our Open House that will take place on Monday, October 28th from 6:00 -7:00 pm. Please join us for a Halloween themed evening where the children are able to trick or treat from classroom to classroom. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Just a reminder that Story Book will be closed on Monday, October 14th for Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
