The month of September absolutely flew by, here in the Kindergarten room!  Our new friends settled in right away, and our class has been quite busy! We’ve gotten to know each other’s names, our families, our likes and dislikes, our pets, favourite foods, and favourite colours.  We’ve spent plenty of time outside, enjoying this wonderful weather, playing soccer, skipping, and learning to use the hula hoops. We are enjoying our circle time together and LOVE to solve the daily mysteries!

As of late, we have been talking a lot about Fall, as we’ve watched the seasons slowly roll over.  Apple picking has certainly been a highlight of many weekend outings with our families.

We finished off the month by wearing our orange shirts for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  We spoke about Phyllis Webstad and the special shirt that had been taken from her on the first day of school.  In promoting the “Every Child Matters” movement, we learned more about the Indigenous culture, the games they play, the celebrations they have, and the amazing costumes that they get to wear.

As we move into the month of October, we’ll continue to reflect on all things “Autumn”.  We’ll start looking for the telltale signs of Fall: pumpkins on porches, leaves turning colours, trees losing their leaves, colder temperatures, etc.

Thanksgiving is a time where we share all the things that we are thankful for, plan special dinners with our families, and try to help silly turkey stay hidden until after the holiday!

We do have a PA Day on Friday, October 11th.  Please let us know as soon as possible if your child will require care on that day.  This will be followed by a three day weekend, as S.B.E.L.C. will be closed on Monday, October 14th for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our kindergarten crew will finish off the month preparing for Halloween!  What costumes do we want to wear? What spooky artwork should we create?  We’ve got LOTS of special stories to share and games to play, that’ll get us right in the groove for a Splendid and Spooky Halloween celebration!
