Hello November!
October has come and gone in a flash! We spent the last month enjoying the beautiful weather and starting our afternoons outside. The fall weather has provided us with a lot of outdoor learning opportunities such as fall scavenger hunts, find that leaf trivia and the life cycle of a pumpkin. Halloween was a topic of major discussion last month and we took full advantage of the Halloween season by making our own witches brew, having Halloween dance parties, and making many Halloween themed art projects. We also planned a Halloween celebration on black and orange day creating new memories with our friends and teachers.
We hope to carry our love of board games, building and exploring new topics into November. Some of our class’s favourite activities have been Countdown, Guess Who, Lego, Kinect’s, Sorry, Uno and Mystery Box. The students are looking forward to continuing to read another novel from the Magic Tree House series. They have become great detectives by solving the mysteries in the books before we are finished. We can’t wait to see where the books take us next!
An activity we continue to do every day is sharing about our day, what started as a get to know you game in September has become a class favourite. We enjoy hearing what our friends and teachers favourite parts of their day were, what accomplishments students have achieved and maybe just sharing what’s on our minds has turned into an amazing opportunity to create an open and welcoming classroom community. November also brings us Remembrance Day, a day and topic we will be talking about. We will explore how it is important for us to remember those who fought for our freedom not just once a year but every day.
As the seasons continually change so does the unpredictable weather, we ask that students come prepared with appropriate fall/winter outerwear as we do spend time outside in the morning and afternoon.
Just a reminder that November 18th is a PD Day. Please let us know of your childcare needs.
In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
