We are happy to report that our “Kindness Project” was a HUGE success! Our JK/SK crew were able to create 99 Valentine cards, 48 “love bugs”, and several paintings for the residents over at Iler Lodge (our local nursing home). With additions from the school-agers and the Preschool room, each & every resident should have gotten at least two Valentine surprises from all of us at S.B.E.L.C.! And from what we’ve heard, they were all very well received! Our Kindergarten “Valentine elves” were SO proud of themselves, as well! It certainly doesn’t take much to put a smile on someone’s face!
Some of you may be hearing rumours about a yeti appearing in our classroom. Truth be told, we have one! Our Kindergarten friends were intrigued when we were gifted a small mountain, with instructions to place it into water for a few days. We carefully observed and documented the daily changes. Low & behold, a yeti started to break through, and as he grew, the mountain crumbled away. We read books about what yetis like to do and researched what kind of things they might eat. We did up a tally chart to determine what our friendly little guy’s name would be. MARSHMELLOW was the winner! Now that he is grown a bit, and out of the water, each of our crew got the chance to hold our yeti and were amazed by how soft he is. Our students certainly enjoy visiting with Marshmellow every day (& we’re thankful that he’s not mischievous like that elf was!).
While some of our friends will be away on the actual day, our group will be talking all about St. Patrick’s Day, in the week leading up to March Break! We’ll be researching the legends of the leprechaun and learning about the “luck of the Irish”. Shamrock painting, and green playdough, will be added to our centres, and some leprechaun stories & games will be incorporated into our circle time! On Thursday, March 17th, we’ll celebrate “all things green”, so dig out whatever green apparel you’re able to find! Socks, shirts, pants, hairbands, or hats; anything goes on that particular day!
As mentioned, our March Break will soon be here! Stay tuned for the special theme days & activities that we have planned for those who are able to join us. We’re excited to provide a fun-filled & engaging week for all!
While some will be celebrating the arrival of Spring, here in the Kindergarten room, . . . we’ll be “Rocking Our Socks” on March 21st. Please send your child in their colourful & crazy socks, as we honour World Down Syndrome Day! Always a fun & creative way to celebrate!
